Criteria on which selections will be based include past academic experience, evidence of a commitment to research as shown through work experience and publications, evidence of an aptitude for independent learning (which is especially important for candidates wishing to take the distance learning degree), a personal statement of why attending the chosen course will further their career, and referees’ reports.
Priority will be given to candidates at an early stage of their scientific career.
Shortlisting of candidates will be done electronically, and final selection of shortlisted candidates will be done through a video link or teleconference. Up to five awards for the academic year 2019-2020 will be made, with the awards being distributed between London and Nagasaki.
The panel will make recommendations about scholarship support but cannot guarantee a successful candidate a place on the course that they select. An award will be conditional on a candidate meeting the criteria set by the host institution for entry on to the course that they wish to take, and on being offered a place on this course.
