Background

RYAF

The Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF) is a nationwide platform whose purpose is to change the current perception among the youths vis-a-vis the agriculture sector in Rwanda, while orienting them to seize investment opportunities through awareness creation, skills development, and advocacy support services. The idea is to create a critical mass of change agents to influence the transformation of agricultural business landscape with courage, determination and positive attitude.

It is a platform of young entrepreneurs operating in any sub-sectors of agribusiness value chain (crop and/or livestock production, agro-processing, inputs and other agro-services as well as ICT in Agriculture). Officially launched in May 2016 with the aim to rejuvenate the sector here in Rwanda, RYAF strive to change and challenge youth mindset vis-a-vis agribusiness opportunities for food and nutritional security and sustainable job creation. The forum is officially legalized in the official gazette number 50 of 11th December 2017.

AGRITERRA

Agriterra is Dutch agri-agency that provides business development services to ambitious cooperatives and farmer organisations in developing and emerging economies. Agriterra assists them with advice and training through locally based business advisors and by deploying practitioners from the Dutch international farmer organisations and (cooperative) companies; the so-called Agripool experts. Agriterra applies a three-track approach: Making cooperatives bankable and create real farmer-led companies, supporting organisations to improve extension services to their members and enhancing farmer-government dialogues. Agriterra advisory practice covers the full range of services on Management & Organization, Financial Management, Governance, Business Development and Lobby & Advocacy.

In Rwanda,Agriterra is operating in 14 districts of Rwanda, supporting approximately
70 cooperatives within the value chains of maize, rice, coffee, Irish potato, dairy, horticulture and sugar cane with the intent to expand its portfolio through collaboration with other sector stakeholders.

Recently Agriterra has initiated a new program aiming at creating jobs for young professionals. Ambitious young professionals will be offered the opportunity to gain work experience in rural farmer-led businesses at known Agriterra partners. Agriterra will co-finance the salary costs of the cooperatives that have enrolled into the program and will guide the young professional and the cooperative in the development, implementation and evaluation of the personal development plan of the young professional.

TERMS OF REFERENCES

Rwanda youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF) partnering with AGRITERRA, are working in empowering Farmer’s association and Cooperatives to have a positive influence on rural development by contributing to a more equal distribution of income and enhance democratic decision-making and relations.

It is with this background that RYAF in partnership with Agriterra wish to recruit highly motivated individual that will collaborates with the cooperatives management to support Cooperative’s farmers in the position specified below.


Job Title: Accountant (3)

Under the cooperatives of Cooproriz-Akanyaru, in Gisagara district, Duterimbere in Musanze district and Koabunya in Rutsiro District, the accountant will be having the following Duties and responsibilities.

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly and annual accounts and Ensure compliance with financial rules and regulations
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
  • Review entries and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports
  • Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annually financial reports to the Manager and the board of the cooperative and explain them in an understandable manner.
  • Be responsible for tax obligations
  • Review of accounts payables and weekly check runs
  • Daily and monthly report and reconciliations
  • Reports, analyses and ensure integrity of all financial information.
  • Participating in quality assurance and quality improvement of the
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the cooperative.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • A1 or A2 In Accounting, Finances
  • Experience for supporting agricultural cooperatives
  • Communication skills;
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Financial software
  • judgment & Decision-Making Skills;
  • Interpersonal skills;
  • Time management Skills;
  • Fluent in Kinyarwanda, English and/ or French; knowledge of all is an advantage

Job Title: Manager (9)

Under the cooperatives of Tuzamurane in Muhanga District, Koabibika. in, Karongi District, Dukomezubuzima and Icyerekezo Kinigi in Musanze district, Kageyo in Gicumbi District, Kobatu, Kofar and Kotibinya in Rubavu district and Koaiso in Ngororero district, a Manager will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all the activities of the cooperative. These will include activity planning and coordination, monitoring and reporting. Provide advice to the cooperative
  • Build a network among farmers, cooperatives, agri-businesses, development partners, and government officials.
  • Ability to work under pressure, live and travel in the countryside and provide outstanding results in limited time
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annually reports to the board of the cooperative explaining them in an understandable manner including Quantity of goods sold; Turnover realized, and Activities done.
  • Be responsible to further all operations of the cooperative and increase the turnover.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management or any other related agricultural development field/subject.
  • Strong practical experience in working with farmers and cooperatives at production and marketing level
  • Strong communication, management, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Result oriented and problem-solving capacity.
  • Excellent English and Kinyarwanda writing and oral communication
  • Experience in working with farmers’ cooperative
  • Ability to work outside of Kigali (Muhanga, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Karongi, Ngororero, Musanze, Gisagara, Nyanza, Nyanza, Rutsiro, Burera, Kamonyi, Gicumbi, Huye and Bugesera).
  • Good teamwork and leadership skills.

Job Title: Agronomist (6)

Under the Cooperatives of CODEFM in Muhanga District, Cooproriz Gatare and Cooproriz Cyili in Gisagara District, Kora-Ubeho, in Musanze District: Kokika in Rubavu District and Umurimo w’umwuga in Rutsiro district, an Agronomist will be responsible to undertake the following Duties and responsibilities:

  • Proximity coaching of farmers
  • Establishments of farmer field school (FFS) in each farmers group
  • Mobilization of farmers toward good agricultural practices
  • Assist Farmer to farmer mobilization
  • To increase production and productivity with in irrigation scheme
  • To increase usage of fertilizers in irrigation scheme
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annually reports to the Manager and the board of the cooperative explaining them in an understandable manner.
  • Evaluate the best quality of seeds to plant
  • Deliver different agronomic advice to cooperative itself and members
  • Coordinate field activities in the cooperative
  • Provide trainings to members of cooperative on soil and crop management issues
  • Create strategies in strengthening crop production and crop management
  • Develop innovative research-based techniques in agronomist functions and programs
  • Identify the gaps in training cycle and assess the required technics in trainings and include them in updated manuals.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • A0 or A1 in Agriculture with 1 year of working experience in a related field
  • Knowledge of existing and innovative agronomy practices;
  • Computer skills; Excellent communication skills, interpersonal and writing skills, Organizational Skills; Judgment & Decision-Making Skills; Complex -Problem Solving skills; Time management Skills; High analytical Skills; Team working Skills; Fluent in Kinyarwanda, English and/ or French; knowledge of all is an advantage.

Job Title: Processing Technician: (1)

Under the cooperative of Coopedush in Karongi District a Processing Technician will be responsible to fulfill the following Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and adjust machines parameters
  • Test Batch or Product Quality
  • Maintain Equipment and Batch Logbooks.
  • Escalate Equipment Malfunction to supervisor.
  • Managing Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points
  • Provide training to team members on relevant industry processes and equipment operations safety.
  • Analyze and control the quality of manufacturing processes.
  • Responsible for process technology equipment operation and safety. Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annually reports to the Manager and the board of the cooperative explaining them in an understandable manner.

Qualifications and experience

A0 or A1 in Food science or working experience in a similar domain


Job Title: STOREKEEPER: (1)

Under the cooperative of Cooproriz- Nyarubogo in Nyanza District a StoreKeeper will be responsible to fulfill the following Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for stores management and ensuring that the productivity is properly maintained at all stores in line with cooperative’s policies and procedures.
  • Assess the availability of space and prepare storage plans prior to commodities arrivals.
  • Supervise and register the receipt of all arriving deliveries at stores.
  • Supervise and register all material/equipment taken out of the stores Monitor the quantity and quality of commodity (ies) stored. Carry out regular physical random stores checks of commodities and inventory.
  • Prepare all procedures and necessary steps for commodity disposal;
  • Produce regular stocks reports and daily stocks positions;
  • Perform other duties assigned by the cooperative
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annually reports to the Manager and the board of the cooperative explaining them in an understandable manner.

Qualifications and experience

  • A1 or A2 in Agriculture economics/accounting /finance with 1 year of working experience in a related field.
