Kigali smart cities challenge Bootcamp

MITEC, RISA, NIRDA and GIZ’s DSSD are launching the Smart cities Challenge Bootcamp in collaboration with Impact Hub Kigali! The overall objective of the boot camp will be to encourage the development and emergence of novel and innovative solutions in Rwanda that simultaneously utilize Rwanda’s increasing energy production to build smart cities and support further development objectives.The Boot Camp will bring together up to 10 teams. Teams will conduct research, develop prototype interventions, iterate their solutions and present their ideas to a competent and diverse jury.Up to three teams will receive a further cash stipend of $3,000 to develop their ideas into prototypes.

Eligibility

Teams interested in developing solutions for smart cities are welcome to apply. Entrepreneurs, electrification experts, urban planners, software developers, design thinkers, makers and more. We will give preference to teams with diverse skills and experiences and a demonstrated ability to convert ideas into concrete prototypes and solutions.

Existing companies and organizations are encouraged to apply if their products or services could benefit from design thinking, user interviews, iteration, testing, and seed funding grants.

They are looking for any interventions simultaneously utilize Rwanda’s increasing energy production to build smart cities and support further development objectives. Solutions can be business ideas, new technologies, innovative applications of existing technology, public sector interventions or public-private partnerships. Teams will develop their ideas during the Boot Camp, and are expected to present their idea, the rationale and a prototype to be considered for the second round of development stipends and seed grants.

Up to 10 teams will be shortlisted to participate in the Boot Camp. All selected, participating teams will receive a development stipend of $500 for participating in the Boot Camp and presenting a unique solution to judges on October 1st.
