Are you a university student or young professional interested in playing a role in shaping the world towards sustainable peace? Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity, JOIN THE GLOBAL NETWORK OF PEACE AMBASSADORS today!

Applications for the 2020 Regional PBI are now OPEN. The 2020 regional PBI will run from February 23rd – March 7th 2020.

The Peace-Building Institute was founded as a platform that brings together Rwandan, regional and international university students and young professionals to examine and discuss how post-genocide society has dealt with legacies left by the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Respectively, it is a forum where participants are able to discuss the challenges and strategies used by Rwanda to extricate itself from the consequences of the Genocide and reshape the present and future.

We aim at empowering young people with skills to prevent and overcome violence and negative stereotyping by creating awareness about the history and consequences of genocide. To effectively achieve these goals, the PBI commits itself to:

  •  Reflect on Rwanda’s history and the process leading to the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and its consequences.
  • Provide participants with experiential learning opportunities on the concepts of genocide and mass atrocities, transitional justice, women in peace and security, and governance aspects in post-conflict and post-genocide societies.
  • Empower youth with the knowledge and skills needed to take the initiative to generate their own momentum as peace-builders in their communities.
  • A broader understanding of their roles as peace-builders in the community at large.

We hope that at the end of the Peace-Building Institute participants will have developed skills to facilitate dialogues between those that have lived through conflict and those who want to learn from them in order to build a global network of peace ambassadors.
