How to Take Full & Partial Screenshots on Chromebook

Taking screenshots on a Chromebook is a straightforward process that can be accomplished in several ways. Here’s a comprehensive guide:

Basic Full Screen Screenshot

  • Press Ctrl and the Show Windows button (usually a rectangle with two vertical lines) simultaneously.
  • If your keyboard doesn’t have a Show Windows button, you can use Ctrl + F5 instead.
  • Your screenshot will be automatically saved in the Downloads folder

Partial Screen Screenshot

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Show Windows (or Ctrl + Shift + F5).
  • This opens the Screen Capture tool, allowing you to select a specific area on your screen.
  • Use the cursor to select the area you want to capture and then take the screenshot.
  • The screenshot will also be saved in your Downloads folder.

Where to Find Your Screenshots

All screenshots are automatically saved in your Downloads folder

  1. Click the Apps icon in the bottom-left corner
  2. Select “Files”
  3. Navigate to the Downloads folder
  4. Look for files named “Screenshot [date] at [time]”
  5. Screenshots are saved as PNG files
  6. You can sort screenshots by date in the Files app to find recent ones
  7. The screenshots are also temporarily shown in the Tote on your shelf
  8. You can quickly access recent screenshots through the Tote feature
