The Earth Foundation is now recruiting Mentors for The Earth Prize 2026, a prestigious global environmental sustainability competition for high school students. This fully virtual opportunity is open to university students worldwide who are passionate about sustainability, environmental innovation, and youth empowerment.

This initiative seeks to connect high school students with inspiring university mentors who can help guide them in developing real-world solutions to the planet’s most pressing environmental challenges. The Earth Prize Mentorship Programme offers university students the opportunity to make a global impactenhance their leadership skills, and gain international experience, all while supporting a new generation of changemakers.

About The Earth Prize

The Earth Prize is an annual, international environmental sustainability competition that engages high school students in developing impactful, research-based solutions to environmental problems. Each year, student teams from around the world compete for recognition, mentorship, and support for their innovative projects.

Mentors play a critical role in this process by providing guidance, structure, and encouragement throughout the competition cycle.

Key Details

 

  • Duration: September 2025 – March 2026
  • Time Commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week
  • Format: 100% virtual
  • Recognition: Certificate of participation upon completion
  • Incentive: The top three Mentors of the Year will each receive a $2,500 prize, based on student feedback and overall mentor impact.

This is a volunteer position designed to be manageable alongside university commitments.

Role of an Earth Prize Mentor

Earth Prize Mentors serve as advisors and motivators for high school teams participating in the competition. They work closely with their assigned teams, helping students to refine their ideas, improve their proposals, and stay engaged throughout the six-month competition period.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide weekly guidance and support to one or more high school teams from September to March.
  • Offer feedback on research, project development, and presentation preparation.
  • Act as a resource and role model for sustainability, innovation, and teamwork.
  • Attend virtual mentor training sessions and stay informed about programme updates.
  • Engage constructively with a diverse international student body.

Mentors are not expected to teach content, but rather to foster critical thinking, encourage creativity, and support collaboration among students.

Ideal Candidates

The Earth Foundation seeks university students who are:

  • Passionate about sustainability, environmental science, innovation, or education.
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate programme at any accredited university worldwide.
  • Strong communicators with the ability to guide and inspire younger students.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and organized.
  • Comfortable working virtually with international teams and across time zones.

Experience in mentoring, teaching, tutoring, or volunteering with youth programmes is an asset but not required. The programme encourages applicants from diverse academic backgrounds, including but not limited to environmental studies, engineering, public policy, biology, economics, or education.
