The EU Delegation to the United Nations is offering six-month traineeships starting in December 2025 for young graduates interested in international relations. The deadline for applications is August 21, 2025, at noon New York time.
Traineeship Opportunities
The delegation has openings in five sections, each with a distinct focus:
- UN Internships (August 2025) : Launch Your Career
- Danish Refugee Council Jobs 2025 – Apply for Humanitarian Vacancies Worldwide
- ONLINE UN VOLUNTEER ROLES : Online Apply to Deliver Tailored English Training for WFP Egypt Teams
- Coordination, Press and Information: This section coordinates policies, organizes meetings for EU ambassadors, and manages public relations and media activities. Trainees will work on projects like the “Pact for the Future” and the UN80 Reform initiative.
- International Partnerships and Sustainable Development: This team is dedicated to achieving the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. It covers a range of issues including social, economic, environmental, and digital development within the framework of the UN General Assembly and the UN Economic and Social Council.
- Human Rights and Social Affairs: This section focuses on human rights and social issues debated in the Third Committee and other UN forums. Topics include gender equality, children’s rights, racial discrimination, and criminal justice.
- UN Horizontal Issues, Budgets, Management, and Reform: This section works within the Fifth Committee, which handles the UN’s administrative and budgetary matters. As the EU is the largest financial contributor, this traineeship provides a unique opportunity to observe how EU Member States coordinate to ensure the UN’s mandates are properly funded.
- Humanitarian Affairs: This team represents the EU in international humanitarian dialogues, attends briefings, and engages in humanitarian advocacy. Trainees will maintain contact with key humanitarian partners such as OCHA and the ICRC.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
All trainees will support their respective sections by helping to coordinate positions among EU Member States, drafting reports, organizing meetings, and attending events at the UN and other organizations. This hands-on experience is designed to provide insight into the EU Delegation’s work within a diplomatic context.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field and excellent English drafting skills. While knowledge of French, the European Union, and the United Nations is an asset, it is not strictly required. Trainees will be responsible for their own visa arrangements, with the delegation providing a letter to assist with the G3 visa application.
