Alameda is a city in Alameda County, California, located on Alameda Island and Bay Farm Island in the San Francisco Bay. As of January 1, 2024, the estimated population was 79,251.
Alameda is known for its Victorian architecture, tree-lined streets, and a rich maritime history, having been home to a major U.S. Naval Air Station until its closure in 1997.The former naval air station site is now undergoing redevelopment, including residential, commercial, and open space projects.
The city offers ferry service to San Francisco and is home to the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum, a historic aircraft carrier.
