Applications now open for FIFA World Cup 26 volunteer programme

Applications are now officially open for the FIFA World Cup 26 volunteer program. This marks a unique, once-in-a-generation opportunity to be a part of the largest volunteer initiative in FIFA’s history. Approximately 65,000 volunteers will be selected to assist in the delivery of the tournament across 16 host cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Eligibility and Application Process

To apply, you must be at least 18 years old at the time of your application. While no prior volunteering experience is required, a good command of English is necessary for most roles. Proficiency in other languages, particularly Spanish in Mexico or French in Canada, is considered an asset.

The application journey involves several steps:

  • First, you must sign up for the FIFA Volunteer Community.
  • Once registered, you’ll complete an online application form and a brief assessment.
  • Successful applicants will be invited to “Volunteer Team Tryouts” or interviews, which are expected to begin in October 2025.
  • Training for selected volunteers is scheduled to follow in March 2026, just ahead of the tournament’s kickoff in June.

It’s important to note that while the volunteer program is a global initiative open to applicants from all over the world, you must be eligible to volunteer in your chosen host country. Volunteers are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and any other related expenses, as these costs are not covered by FIFA.

Roles and Benefits

Volunteers will be involved in a wide range of roles across 23 functional areas, including stadium operations, fan engagement, transportation, and media support. You will have the chance to contribute to the tournament at official and non-official sites, such as stadiums, airports, hotels, and training facilities.

The benefits of volunteering, while unpaid, are numerous. They include:

  • A behind-the-scenes view of the world’s biggest football event.
  • The opportunity to make connections with people from around the globe.
  • The chance to gain valuable skills and experience.
  • Receiving an official FIFA Volunteer uniform and a certificate of participation.
  • Getting meals and refreshments provided during your shifts.

Volunteers are considered the “heart, soul, and smile” of FIFA events, acting as ambassadors for their host cities and contributing to an unforgettable experience for fans and participants alike.
