Background

Swisscontact promotes economic, social and ecological development by supporting people to successfully integrate into local commercial life. The focus of its systemic interventions in the private sector is the strengthening of local and global value chains. Through its projects, Swisscontact enables access to professional training, promotes local entrepreneurship, creates access to local financial service providers and supports the efficient use of resources with the goal of successfully promoting employment and income generation. Swisscontact is currently implementing an SDC skills development program in Rwanda and, is looking for a competent professional to fill in the following vacant post based in Kigali.

The main purpose of this function is to support the strategic positioning of Swisscontact development cooperation programs in key priority areas (based on the respective business strategy) through the development of communication approaches, tools, and capacities focusing on donor and public awareness.  An additional key role of the job holder is to facilitate the liaison between the Head Office, the Regional Office, and the country communication officers in Burundi and DRC by ensuring coordination: Providing information and advice, coordination of activities, capacity building, and facilitation of information sharing amongst the region.  Finally, the position has to serve as Administrative Assistant to the Swisscontact Direction.

Tasks

  • Provide technical, administrative and logistical support and reference materials to carry out development communication strategies and activities and recommend strategies, approaches, plans, methods, and operating procedures to ensure community participation and engagement, as well as optimal outreach and impact.
  • Organize and manage official correspondences and emails.
  • Drafting of correspondence and editing of reports.
  • Facilitate the organization of internal and external meetings, as well as workshops.
  • Ensure coverage of Swisscontact’s project work in public and social media, events, etc.
  • Provide guidance on branding requirements for the projects and reinforce the application and consistency of donor and Swisscontact communications brand policy across all internal and external communication products and materials (Co-Branding).
  • Writing publications, articles on achievements and objectives of projects and Swisscontact.
  • Conduct activities and visits with media and journalists when necessary.
  • Participate and support Swisscontact Central and Eastern Africa’s communications network.
  • Advise projects on institutional communication.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of online information (Web page, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Insta, video documentaries, etc.).
  • Support and coordinate project events.
  • Identify and develop stories and case studies that are engaging, motivating and high-quality, which communicate impact and showcase Swisscontact’s projects.
  • Identify opportunities for creating and delivering inspiring and attractive multi-media content about the project activities (incl. partners) via traditional and digital media channels
  • Meet the internal and external communication needs of Swisscontact’s country office in Rwanda.
  • Participate and support the communications network of Swisscontact globally
  • Other official tasks as requested by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Professional in the area of communication or similar.
  • At least an A0 diploma in administration secretarial studies with a minimum of 3 years working experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience, working in communication in international cooperation or equivalent.
  • Excellent understanding and management of methodologies, tools and off-/online communication channels.
  • Knowledge of private sector development work methodologies.
  • Experience in dealing with media, social communicators, and independent journalists.
  • Experience in organizing events and workshops.
  • Advanced level in communication and negotiation skills;
  • A good level of IT skills and with knowledge of MS office
  • A high capacity to effectively work independently or under minimum supervision;
  • A capacity to combine multiple tasks (Multitasking skills) at same time
  • A high level of integrity.
  • Availability for travel in the country and region of work.
  • Excellent command of software solutions and programs for audiovisual design and production.
  • Good command of French, English, and Kinyarwanda.
