Mission and objectives

Guided by the 2030 Agenda principle of “leaving no one behind”, UNICEF Rwanda under the current country programme will contribute to five priorities under the social transformation pillar of the National Strategy for Transformation 2017–2024: (a) Ensuring access to quality health for all; (b) Reducing malnutrition; (c) Ensuring access to and improving the quality of education; (d) Moving towards a modern Rwandan household, and; (e) Enhancing graduation from poverty and promoting resilience. The country programme will be implemented as part of the United Nations Development Assistance Plan 2018–2023 (UNDAP II), specifically contributing to Strategic Result Area 2: Social Transformation.

Context

The CAP section in RCO is responsible for ensuring appropriate visibility and recognition of Children’s issues in Rwanda, the region and Globally. Additionally, the section is also responsible for the office’s Private Sector Engagement. The CAP section, headed by a P4 includes two specialists, an associate and two consultants. The selected UNV will be working under the direct supervision of the Chief, CAP and very closely with the Communication Specialist on a day-to-day basis.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships section, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Update RCO’s Social Media strategy in line with the recommendations of the Social Media Audit carried out by the CAP section in relation to Stunting Reduction and ECD. 2. Create content for RCO social media platforms daily in alignment with the CO’s programmatic priorities in Stunting reduction, ECD, WASH and private sector engagement among others. 3. Support UNICEF’s social media engagement, by developing digital content and posts, and tracking the reach and level of engagement on the posts. 4. Daily tracking of relevant news stories in state media, submitting a news analysis monthly and a detailed annual media report. 5. Support the organization of UNICEF events/workshops/sessions with government, media, civil society partners, children, and influencers in line with the office annual plan around Stunting Reduction and ECD. 6. Support the planning, organization and execution of thematic campaigns (offline and online), in line with office annual plan related to Nutrition, WASH and ECD. 7. Generate story ideas/content pieces and coordinate the documentation of programme interventions, working with program sectors and national/international individuals/agencies. 8. Manage and periodically update the RCO Donor visibility plan of EKN funded projects. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Required experience

3 years of experience in – Excellent knowledge of existing social media platforms and their functioning. – Excellent English and Kinyarwanda language writing skills. – Experience of having worked in the social media departments of organization is preferable. – Good knowledge of social media trends, audiences and preferences is an add value – Good knowledge of computers and operating social media platforms on mobile phones
