Job Description

General Duties and Responsibilities: Database & Application Administrator is responsible for planning database development by upgrading, maintaining, evaluating, and improving a transaction – processing model. The general responsibilities of the Database & Application Administrator include, inter alia, some key functions as follows:

(1) assess database performance by developing a protocol for measurement of results and identification of problem areas;

(2) support database performance by monitoring database performance; evaluating and resolving processing and programming problems; designing database management tools; answering user questions;

(3) secure database by preparing access and control policies and procedures; implementing disaster recovery procedures;

(4) support application design by contributing expertise to applications, operations, and technical support teams;

(5) update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations; and

(6) accomplish information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:(1) install and upgrade the database server and application tools;(2) allocate system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system;(3) modify the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers verbally;(4) enrol users and maintaining system security;(5) ensure compliance with database vendor license agreement;(6) control and monitoring user access to the database; (7) monitor and optimize the performance of the database; (8) plan for backup and recovery of database information; (9) maintain archived data;(10) backup and restore databases; (11) contact database vendor for technical support; (12) generate various reports by querying from database as per need; (13) consult with primary stakeholders, users and senior management to conduct user needs analysis and develop database management systems solutions. Supports staff and management users; (14) determine hardware, software and staff time required to implement database solutions;(15) analyse requested database changes for systems impact;(16) design, develop, install, implement and integrate relational databases including user interfaces;(17) create and implement programming scripts and procedures to maintain consistent and accurate data during transfer, storage and retrieval; (18) convert electronic data from original formats into system- compatible formats;(19) create technical and non- technical documentation;(20) monitor database system availability and overall functionality and optimizes database performance; (21) install, implement, test and maintain relational database software including patches, updates and upgrades and related hardware; (22) establish and coordinate database user access and privileges. Implements data security protocols. Implements and maintains database backup and disaster recovery procedures; (23) participate as a team member on database design and development projects; and (24) perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the competent authority.

Job Profile

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Information Management System, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering with 3 years of relevant working experience. A Certification in A+, N+ is required;
Certifications in CCNA, MCSE, MCSD, MCTs
(.NET),LAMP/WAMP Framework or MCITP are an added advantage or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Information Management System,
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.

Key technical skills and knowledge required:

  • In – depth knowledge of database programming languages such as SQL, SSRS< SSAS, SSIS, T- SQL;
  • Demonstrable understanding of API development frameworks;
  • Expertise with database and data warehouse designs, data modeling and ETL exposure;
  • Experience with database performance tuning, stored procedures, indexing, and triggers;
  • Familiarity with data governance including master data management, data quality and data security experience with Power BI or equivalent visualisation/reporting platform
  • Ability to translate broad policy guidelines, business needs and processes into system requirements and visual workflow diagrams and business rules;
  • Ability to communicate sophisticated technical concepts to general audiences;
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications in Excel;
  • Ability to clearly communicate sophisticated technical concepts and document technical work, including coding methodology to general audience;
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications in Excel.
