AB BANK Rwanda Plc. is looking for a qualified and competent staff to fill the position of Head of Risk.

Head of Risk is responsible for the risk management function of the Bank. S/he is responsible for the development of the risk management framework of the Bank, including adequate credit, operational, and financial/market/counter party risk policies, procedures and tools, thus ensuring the Bank is in full compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies and procedures to effectively identify, mitigate and monitor principal risks for the Bank. The Head of Risk reports directly to Board Risk Committee and AH Group Risk department; but administratively to the CEO

Major Responsibilities: 

 Liaise with functional managers in implementing effective risk management in their areas of responsibilities

 Develop and implement risk management framework in compliance with international risk management standards and principles as well as Central Bank Prudential guidelines.

 Coordinate the identification, assessment and recording of business risks that relate to the Bank’s business processes and functions.

 Ensure risk profile is aligned to the return/profitability aspirations of the business.

 Articulate overall risk management policy and strategy at enterprise level and for individual risk areas; communicate the bank’s risk management policy and strategy to operating entities.

 Establish infrastructure, systems and processes for identifying, managing, controlling and reporting risks across the business.

 Monitor and report the current status of risks and the effectiveness of existing controls, and develop bank-wide credit strategies/policies and oversee credit portfolio management across the business on a monthly basis.

 Constantly monitor and analyze the Bank’s credit position against market segments.

 Ensure minimal credit risk exposure while maintaining profit maximization objectives.

 Oversee risk management functions across all the business units and ensure compliance with the bank’s policy and direction.

 Champion the continual review and update of the Bank’s policies, guidelines and practices, in line with changes in credit risk and other business priorities.

 Oversee the introduction and implementation of controls to ensure that the Bank’s risks assets are properly classified, recorded and monitored.

 Oversee development of company’s business specific risk tolerances and working with managers to establish control activities & recommending corrective actions where necessary

 Help senior management define risk acceptance criteria and risk tolerance limits for each risk area.

 Coordinate the identification /collation of comments/reports on potential and actual control lapses /weaknesses and obtain the appropriate approvals to implement their overhaul.
Stay abreast of local and global industry–wide control issues/fraudulent practices and champion efforts to ensure internal application of effective control practices in the Bank.

 Other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Necessary experience, knowledge and ability 
-  Possession of degree(s) in any finance-related discipline
-  Graduate degree an advantage
-  Relevant professional qualification(s) in accounting or any finance-related discipline i.e. ACA, ACCA, CFA and CIS an advantage
-  Minimum of five (3) years’ cognate experience in a financial institution
-  Sound awareness/ understanding of trends and recent developments in banking and the finance services industry.
-  Relevant experience shall be in risk management in financial services.
-  Demonstrate a proven ability to manage market, liquidity and other types of enterprise risks.
