Job title: Chief Executive Officer

Sonarwa Life Assurance Company Limited (SONARWA Life) is a Rwandan Insurer, providing life assurance and other related financial services in Rwanda. The company offers a wide range of life insurance products including but not limited to Group Life Insurance, Group Pension, Loan Protection Insurance and Education Endowment services. SONARWA Life is a pioneer and leader in the life assurance sector.

The Company is seeking to recruit a dynamic and visionary leader to join its winning team as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to drive its strategic planning, reporting to the Board of Directors .

He/she will be responsible for daily efficient running of the company business and directing the activities of the company towards achievement of its goals and objectives. He/she provides overall leadership and advice to the senior management team.

Main responsibilities of the job

a) Lead the Senior management of Sonarwa Life’s business, consistent with the strategy and commercial objectives agreed by the Board;

b) Lead and oversee the implementation of Sonarwa Life’s long and short term plans in accordance with its approved strategy.

c) Plan and direct the company’s activities to achieve the stated/agreed targets and standards for performance.

d) Prepare regular and periodic reports to the board that provide a strategic direction and qualitative assessment on the achievement of the planned goals.

e) Drives implementation of policies and recommendations made by the board.

f) Report to shareholders on the organizational plans and performance.

g) Oversees effective internal controls and management information systems and ensure they are in place to support the company’s operations.

h) Ensure that Sonarwa has appropriate systems to enable it to conduct its activities efficiently, effectively, lawfully and ethically.

i) Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative for Sonarwa Life and ensure that the organization and its mission, programs, and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.

j) Ensure that the Directors are properly informed and that sufficient information is provided to the Board to enable the Directors to form appropriate judgments

k) Oversees that Sonarwa maintains high standards of corporate citizenship and social responsibility in all environments in which it operates.

l) Monitor the performance of each department against targets set and monitors the company’s overall performance.

m) Oversees the preparation of company budgets for presentation to the Board

n) Conduct periodic review to ensure overall expenditure is within budget

o) Investigates reasons for budget variance and establish ways to reduce the variance

p) Recruit, select and develop executive team members to ensure that Sonarwa has the right competence to drive the achievement of its strategic objectives.

Professional, Academic Qualifications & Experience

  • Hold a Master’s degree in a Business-related field from a recognized institution;
  • Possess professional qualification(s) in Insurance and/or Actuarial, ACII, CFA, CPA, ACCA or ACA;
  • Be a member in good standing of a recognized professional body;
  • Have knowledge and experience of not less than Ten (10) years of relevant work experience with at least Five (5) years served in senior management position in a comparable role;
  • Possess strong knowledge of the insurance industry and a proven track record in business growth;
  • Have thorough understanding of financial management, regulatory compliance, board management and demonstrable commercial and investment acumen; and

The selected candidate will be subject to the (BNR) regulatory approval
