Niger is hosting the 33rd Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU2019) from 3 to 7 July 2019. Several scientific and cultural side events are planned on this occasion. These events, among other objectives, aim to showcase and celebrate Innovation for Development with Science at the heart of the agenda to strengthen African integration through Science, Research, and Development.

The largest side event of the AU2019 meeting is the “Innovation for Development (i4Dev)” Hub. The committee in charge of organizing of the Science-related events is inviting African PhD students in second year and beyond to submit applications for a “My Thesis in 180 seconds” competition, which will take place from July 8 to 10, 2019 in Niamey, Capital of Niger – and for that week, Capital of Africa. Each participant will have three minutes to present his or her research, in plain language, to a non-specialist audience and a multidisciplinary jury.

Only candidates still in school (have not yet defended their thesis) by the date of the competition are eligible.

The organizing committee will arrange for travel and accommodation of the selected candidates (representatives from each African region will be selected).

Interested students must sign up using the application form below, no later than Friday, May 24, 2019.
