Project Overview and Role

The DFID Improving Market Systems for Agriculture in Rwanda (IMSAR) programme is a 4-year market system programme that will help to commercialise agriculture by improving the way agricultural market systems function, making them more effective, participatory (by including poor farmers and other disadvantaged groups), and more competitive. In so doing, it will contribute to increasing the incomes of poor households in targeted agricultural market systems. The programme identifies market failures – such as limited access to finance and technology, limited or poor storage, lack of access to inputs such as fertilisers – and develops solutions to address them. It seeks to strengthen the capacity of farmers and private sector actors to engage with and benefit from markets. It will provide both short term and long-term investments into small and medium-size agriculture businesses – where possible. IMSAR is implemented by Palladium. IMSAR currently has 13 interventions live and more in the pipeline. These interventions are in the areas of aggregation, agricultural inputs and finance. The activities are being implemented in partnership with market actors (public and private) across the country. Through this implementation, signs are emerging which demonstrate the small holder’s farmer and agriculture workers (men and women) have started to use and experience benefits from IMSAR supported activities.

A Rwanda-based professional photographer is sought to take photographs on subjects related to the IMSAR programme. The photographer will be hired under a 6-month contract and be given at least one photography assignment during the contract period. These may include photographs of field activities, programme events, agriculture commodities, beneficiaries and partners.

Responsibilities

  • When selected for the assignment, the photographer will hold discussion with IMSAR to understand the logic each intervention and how impact is being generated
  • Based on the shared understanding, the photographer will help devise field plans to travel to site location and take a series of pictures and submit them to IMSAR with appropriate captions within one week of field visit. Travel related costs will be provided and arranged for by IMSAR
  • An agreed number of high-resolution photographs per assignment complete with captions in English
  • A table listing the file photo name and specific caption for each photo, specifying who, what, when, where, so that more detailed information can be written later by the IMSAR team
  • This will be a call-down contract – the duration of the assignment will be determined on a need basis
