Inkomoko Business Development is a consulting and training firm that works with entrepreneurs in Rwanda to improve their systems in accounting, finance, operations and sales in order to improve their profit and create jobs. Founded in 2012, Inkomoko is mission-driven organization that seeks both social impact and financial sustainability, as the Rwandan affiliate of African Entrepreneur Collective. Our existing products and services include a range of products – from low-cost loans, to technology solutions for businesses, to bookkeeping training, to business assessment, and more. Currently, we work with Small & Medium Enterprises (Rwanda) and Micro-Businesses (refugees) in Kenya and Rwanda.

ABOUT THE ROLE
To help us reach our goal of business growth for job creation, we are looking for a passionate Product Designer to collaborate with AEC multiple teams to understand our users (entrepreneurs), and to design solutions (both digital and services based) to create meaningful new programs for them. We are seeking candidates with previous product design experience, incorporating user experiences, empathy, and feedback, and adjusting products for new context and markets.
Specific responsibilities of this Management-level position include:
IMPROVE EXISTING PRODUCTS/SERVICES
Serve as an internal consultant to support the needs of Directors to improve the offerings from their respective teams
Work with the M&E team to get data and feedback from clients on their user experiences
Applying design research methods (interviews, personas, journey maps, competitive analysis and usability testing) to make informed recommendations for improvements
Present and clearly communicate your design solutions/iterations during internal reviews
Ask thoughtful and critical questions to stakeholders to inform the design process
DEVELOP NEW PRODUCTS/SERVICES
Work with Directors to identify gaps in our portfolio of services
Work with Directors to develop new product offerings to meet grant or contract opportunities
Generate concepts/options, considering best practices in human factors and usability design, and provide models as necessary.
Design mockups, prototypes, specs, etc. to clearly communicate ideas to team members and stakeholders
Work with Sales and Marketing staff to refine how the new products can be promoted.
Evaluate and iterate any new product.
MODIFY PRODUCTS FOR NEW MARKETS/AUDIENCES
With a wide spectrum of user-centered design activities, advise on how the products/services can be modified for new markets/audiences
Landscape analysis of new markets understand local context
Identify local stakeholders in new locations to provide local user insight
Fully develop product/process iterations for new markets, presenting several options to key stakeholders
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of leadership in product ideation/creation, a history of commercially successful products, and superior communication skills. The Product Designer will be passionate about making products/services that solve problems for clients. Basic qualifications include:
- Extensive experience with human-centered design methods
- Good problem solver, with a mindset toward innovation and invention
- Ability to generate ideas and communicate visually (through sketches and quick-thinking models)
- Ability to develop client presentations; including capturing the design development process
- Passion for growth and openness to feedback from other designers/stakeholders
- Demonstration of design skills through presenting a polished portfolio
- Strong communication skills; demonstrable ability to build rapport and trust
- Has experience with a business services development (preferred)
