Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) is an international non-governmental organization that specializes in the design and construction of pedestrian footbridges. We are on the hunt for a Rwanda Engineering Manager who would be responsible for management of engineering duties for the Rwanda program and working from Rwanda. This individual will be responsible for engineering management, bridge design, quality assurance and asset Management. The successful candidate should be an Excellent english communicator and Speaking Kinyarwanda would be an added value.

Responsibilities

Engineering Management

  • Oversee project feasibility,   bridge   designs   and   drawings,   and   construction following the guidelines defined by the Global Director of Engineering
  • Manage Rwanda program engineering staff and be ultimately responsible for the Rwanda Engineering Department’s deliverables
  • Represent the Bridges  to  Prosperity  Rwanda program with  stakeholders  such  as local and national government, development organizations, funding and financing partners, and implementing partners
  • Work with the  Program  Director  and  Operations  Manager to  develop  and implement training programs for all new and existing engineers and forepeople
  • Work with program   team   to   optimize   engineering   training,   design,   and construction methodologies in country
  • Participate in needs assessment process for the Rwanda program.
  • Ensure Rwanda Program  stays  current  with  Rwandan engineering  practices  and codes, keeping Bridges to Prosperity design standards updated.
  • Cover global engineering  needs  in  case  the  Global  Engineering  Manager  is  not available Bridge Design
  • Produce and check bridge related  design  material  (drawings  and  calculations) independently
  • Produce professional engineering drawings and compile/check full plan sets
  • Assess prospective bridge sites for technical approval and approval of center line location (process survey, evaluate aerial imagery, preliminary design alternatives). Be able to travel to site and directly carry out a survey or technical assessment if needed.
  • Solve design related technical queries coming from ongoing construction sites.
  • Produce temporary works design when needed
  • Keep improving, and  innovating  the  engineering  behind  Bridges  to  Prosperity bridge construction methods
  • Collaborate with Global Director of Engineering for technical innovations

 Quality Assurance

  • Manage quality control within the program, including material specifications and material testing
  • Work on developing  an  increasingly  detailed  and  sustainable  in-country  Quality Control System
  • Manage material specifications and material testing for the Rwanda program

Asset Management

  • Evaluate inspection reports from projects within the program
  • Recommend maintenance or repairs of national bridge inventory
  • Manage prioritization of maintenance and repairs of national bridge inventory
  • Manage and keep record of final drawings in relevant B2P storage systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or Equivalent, Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • 7 years experience working in the civil/structural engineering design field
  • Demonstrated team management experience
  • Strong technical knowledge in the field of structural engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Exceptional, professional, and details-oriented organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high problem-solving skills
  • Capable of working with different cultures and languages
  • Ability to work independently after given clear direction
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills•Creative, energetic, and self-motivated
  • Professional Engineer (PE/SE), EIR or equivalent
  • Fluency in English. Fluency in Kinyarwanda would be valued positively
  • Full Driving License desired

Location

The position is based in Rwanda and requires occasional travel to Bridges to Prosperity existing or prospective project sites.Work on site during construction could be needed in order to gain specific construction experience to be supporting the design.
