ABOUT ONE ACRE FUND

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. We provide quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural trainings to improve harvests. We measure our success by our ability to make farmers more prosperous: On average, farmers harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

We are growing quickly. We currently serve more than 800,000 farm families in Eastern and Southern Africa, with more than 7,500 full-time staff, and we aim to serve 1 million farm families by 2020.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our 2030 vision is to have visible impact from every farmer’s home. As a consequence, the successful candidate for this role will have the opportunity to help One Acre Fund reach that vision in the North region. The North Region will be our newest area to launch and represents nearly 100 sites and 30,000 farmers in the first year. This work will include setting up a regional HQ, supporting districts as they find meeting space, hosting professional development trainings for their team, and launching our first-ever enrollment for TUBURA farmers in a new landscape. A successful candidate will become one of the key thought partners within Field Operations Leadership. In addition, the work with several stakeholders from within the organization (Logistics, Field Data Verification, HR, etc.) and outside the organization (Mobile Network Operators: MTN and Airtel Tigo, Sector Agronomists).

Here is how a typical week for the North Regional Lead looks like:

  • Monday: There is a Regional Leadership meeting through which the Regional Lead (RL) is expected to provide clarity on goals, progress made, challenges faced as well as what the way forward is going to be. He/She also has individual check-ins with Field Directors to discuss district specific performance
  • Tuesday: the Regional Lead attends a District team meeting – where Field Officers and Field Directors come together to discuss district specific performance – and writes an Execution report for the National Field Director.
  • Wednesday: the Regional Lead does admin work. He/She looks into KissFlow claims and follows up to make sure that they sure they stay on track to be solved for the team in time. He/She also have her weekly check-in with the Deputy/National Field Director.
  • Thursday: the Regional Lead leads the team into the main follow-up activity of the week and discusses performance management issues with Field Directors and comes up with course correction actions.
  • Friday: the Regional Lead starts preparation for the following week’s performance management meetings and schedules a field visit to see how interventions proposed the previous week are being implemented in the field.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking exceptional professionals with over 3 years of work experience in a leadership position working with rural-based staff or clients. Candidates who fit the following criteria are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Passionate about team motivation and professional development for their direct reports
  • Previous experience managing large teams (of two or more levels of staff)
  • Ability to solve complex problems in a way that satisfies stakeholders and always puts farmers first.
  • Ability to work independently and move a large portfolio of work forward quickly.
  • Ability to coordinate with different teams, as well as internal and external stakeholders
  • Uses data analysis to inform recommendations and decision making, where applicable
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously without missing any critical tasks.
  • Attention to detail and strong personal organization
  • Strong oral and written English and Kinyarwanda communication skills.
  • Work experience in a field facing role an advantage.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Excel/Word and Google Sheets/Docs.
  • Commitment to be based in Musanze (Musanze) for length of contract, with potential work travel within the country.
