Rwanda Seed Fund Investment Manager – Norrsken Foundation

We are looking for an investment professional who can set up and manage Norrsken’s seed fund in Rwanda.

At Norrsken Foundation, we’re striving to optimize the world for people and planet. We’re using equal parts entrepreneurship, technology and investments to make the world a better place.

In order to accomplish this, we launched Norrsken’s European impact seed fund in 2017 with the support of four unicorn founders (founders of King.com, Mojang, Daniel Wellington and Klarna). The fund invests in and supports entrepreneurs with early stage businesses that use technology to solve societal and environmental challenges.

We are now in the process of establishing our first seed fund in Rwanda. This will be a relatively small traditional seed fund, investing in exceptional entrepreneurs that can build fast growing businesses. As the manager, you will be responsible for setting up the fund from start to finish, including recruiting the local team.

We’re building something that does not exist, and this is an opportunity to shape that journey. We will build the fund structure around you as the leader, and exactly how that will look is for you to tell us. You are building from scratch, but you will be able to leverage Norrsken’s capital, as well as our extensive network and experience.

Once the seed fund is established, you will independently build up your own dealflow, evaluate opportunities and jointly manage the full investment process.

Responsibilities

• Establish the Rwanda seed fund together with the Norrsken team.
• Responsibility for the investment process (business identification, evaluation, due diligence activities, and legal term negotiation).
• Be part of supporting the portfolio in board meetings and continuous interactions with your knowledge and expertise.
• Help to elevate the companies to the next level (this will include attendance of board meetings, and guidance in the fields of finance, business development, and strategy.
• Actively source new deals across Rwanda and neighbouring countries.
• Represent Norrsken at local and international events and conferences.
• Interact with entrepreneurs and investors on a day to day basis.
• Work closely with the Norrsken investment team on every aspect of the business.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone with 3-10 years of experience in high-performance environment like investment banking, management consulting, private equity or venture capital. Or maybe you are a tech startup founder who raised venture capital funding and knows this world from the inside. You are most probably coming from an environment with strong financial incentives, but we believe your main motivator to join us lies in using your skills to create long-lasting impact. In addition, you:

• Have a solid background and understanding of the tech-environment, entrepreneurship and digital business models.
• Bring a hands-on approach and ability to lead both internal and external teams.
• Pay attention to detail, show great work ethic and know how to prioritize large, complex projects.
• Are results oriented and able to excel in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adjust with ease of shifting priorities and accomplish multiple tasks.
• Are team-oriented, motivated, committed, proactive and able to work independently, persistent, and dependable.
• Show excellent social competence.
• Demonstrate a high interest in the world of technology, entrepreneurship, and a global mindset to develop and implement solutions easily – as the start-up and tech-scene is exactly where we are at home.
• Speak English fluently, live in Kigali or is willing to move there.

Location: The job is based in Kigali Rwanda and will involve traveling.
