Tech2Empower Rwanda Impact Challenge 2019Being part of Tech2Empower Rwanda Impact Challenge, you will have access to experts at top tech companies, get coaching from a team of Advisors on your project of choice and the opportunity to share your work and amplify your impact.

From May 25 through June 1, 2019, Tech2Empower will bring a delegation of volunteers Advisors, from top technology companies to Kigali for a week of training, hands-on consultancy for impact projects, mentoring activities, a tech and career fair for young women and girls, and cultural and networking events. One of the program’s objectives in Rwanda is to coach and collaborate with women-led NGOs and social enterprises that are making a difference in their communities. This collaborative coaching will take place during the Tech2Empower Rwanda: Impact Challenge in Kigali, on Monday May 27 and Tuesday May 28, 2019.

Program details:

The Tech2Empower Rwanda Impact Challenge will support women-led NGOs and social enterprises interested in getting support on specific projects related to technology, communications, administration and finances that will increase the reach and impact of their social initiatives. The program will take place over 2 days, May 27 – 28, 2019, during which the social enterprise team and Advisors will meet and collaborate.

Key dates: 

  • Application deadline: April 17, 2019. The interviews and selection process will be conducted on a rolling basis until vacancies are filled. We encourage interested candidates to apply as early as possible to increase their chances of being selected before the program is full.
  • Selection announcement: April 26, 2019.
  • Advisors Team Matching Announcement: May 15, 2019.
  • Progradates: May 27 – 28, 2019.

What is included: 

  • Virtual support from WAKE to prepare for the Impact Challenge project work;
  • A stipend of U$100 (approx. 9.000 Rwandan Francs) per NGO/social enterprise team – to help with transportation and related expenses;
  • Lunch and snack breaks will be provided both days;
  • Participants will be invited to a networking event, with the opportunity to showcase their initiative/work.

To be considered for the Tech2Empower Rwanda Impact Challenge, applicant organizations must be:

  • An NGO and/or social enterprise with a primary focus and demonstrated commitment to making a positive impact in the community, especially for women and girls;
  • Led by Rwandan women;
  • Based in Rwanda, with the majority of work taking place in Rwanda;
  • Available and committed to sending 2-3 female team members to participate in the Impact Challenge for 2 full days in Kigali (Monday and Tuesday, 27 – 28, May, 2019).

Selection criteria:

  • Project idea: Clear and focused project idea and explanation of its impact on the organization’s work;
  • Commitment: Clear commitment to actively participate in the two days of the program and organization’s commitment to sending at least 2 team female members for the Impact Challenge on May 27 – 28;
  • Mission and impact: Demonstrated focus and commitment to advancing women’s and girls’ participation, access, economic opportunity and rights.;
  • Application: Thoughtful application clearly expressing how the applicant will leverage what they learn and experience to strengthen the work of their organization;

Please note:

  • The final selection will also take into consideration organization and project focus areas, location, communities served and size of organization to bring together a diverse group of participants for Tech2Empower Rwanda Impact Challenge.
  • All communications and project work will be conducted in English.
  • All the selected participants will be required to have access to the internet and the ability to bring a wifi-enabled laptop to the Impact Challenge.

About the Project Proposals
Women-led NGOs, social impact initiatives and enterprises are invited to submit their project proposals by April 17, within the application form. Organizations may propose projects in the following categories:

  • Digital strategy, website, and communications;
  • Marketing strategy and branding;
  • Organizational planning and strategy;
  • Administrative systems,CRM, and databases;
  • “Pitching” your organization to funders, investors, potential supporters (presentation skills + “pitch deck”).
