Internews is an international media development organization, headquartered in Washington DC, USA with a regional office in Nairobi, Kenya. For more than 35 years, in more than 100 countries, Internews has worked to build healthy media and information environments where they are most needed. We have proudly incubated hundreds of sustainable media organizations, bolstered the skills of thousands of media professionals  and citizens, and helped them reach millions of people with quality, local information.

As part of the Internews’ regional operations in East Africa and with funding support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), we build the capacity of journalists and media houses and offer financial support to media houses to promote good governance, citizen engagement and dialogue between CSOs, the media and elected leaders in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and South Sudan.

SCOPE OF WORK

Through this open Request for Applications (RFA), Internews invites local media houses, media associations and content producers based and registered in Rwanda to apply for grants to produce, publish/broadcast and share content on governance and accountability, citizen engagement, and youth and gender, among other themes. Internews intends to select three grants through this RFA. The main output of these grants is multimedia content production (TV, video, audio, print, online, social media content). Each grant will be a maximum of USD20,0000. Implementation will not be more than four months.

This RFA is seeking applicants to propose creative and effective approaches to producing content in the following result areas:

Result Area 1: Governance and Accountability – What the government and Civil Society Organizations are doing to ensure Governance and Accountability are entrenched in the society.

Result Area 2: Citizen Engagement – Inclusion of People living with disabilities, youth, women and the marginalized in governance.

Result Area 3: Youth and Women Leaders – Successes, challenges, promises vs. delivery.

APPLICATION

Applicants must provide a detailed description of the project, specifying its goal, activities and results.

Applicants must also describe which geographic areas their activities will cover. They must provide a budget. Lastly, applicants should demonstrate their technical capacity to implement the grant project, as well as the financial and administrative systems in place to manage the grant funds.  Applicants should be prepared to initiate project activities in May 2019.

Deadline for submission of applications: 22 nd March 2019 at 5pm Rwanda time (emailed documents should be in MS Word and Excel).

Expected Grant type: Cost reimbursable awards – payments are made monthly for reimbursement of actual costs spent
