The University of Edinburgh and the University of Rwanda will be co-hosting a “one health” summer school in Kigali from Sunday 25^th to Friday 30^th August 2019. “One Health” is an approach to designing and implementing programmes, policies, legislation and research in which multiple sectors communicate and work together to achieve better health outcomes for humans, animals and ecosystems.

Our summer school will bring together master’s students from both universities, providing them with an opportunity to work together across disciplines to tackle pressing global health challenges that cross the boundaries between human, animal and ecosystem health.

What will summer school involve ?

Students will stay at the Good News Guest House and classroom teaching will take place at University of Rwanda. Summer school will start with a welcome session, followed by a welcome dinner on Sunday 25^th August. On Monday 26^th August, Professor Michael Thrusfield will deliver a series of lectures on clinical trials epidemiology and statistics, introducing the principles of clinical trials and illustrating this with examples from both human and veterinary medicine. Tuesday 27^th and Wednesday 28^th August will involve group project work. Students will undertake field trips related to this group project work on Thursday 29^th August and will present their work to their colleagues on Friday 30^th August. Summer school will close mid-afternoon on Friday 30^th August. There is a draft timetable overleaf.
