FULL JOB SUMMARY

The Systems Administrator is a key person in the IT Department, reporting to the Head of IT. The System Administrator will be responsible for the computer servers of the Bank and ensure daily that they are running efficiently by performing upgrading and maintenance tasks on hardware and software, resolving technical problems, overseeing their activity levels, ensuring server security, and developing new system structures when necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer user accounts to ensure the accounts are created and maintained on time and that continuous monitoring is undertaken.
  • Apply revisions to host system firmware and software and work with vendors to assist with support activities.
  • Be familiar with system administration tasks such as creating new users and disabling leavers.
  • Be in charge of backups and retrieval of resources.
  • Conduct tests and perform security and quality controls.
  • Ensure Compliance with the patching process.
  • Ensure implementation of key services across the Urwego Bank network and help to achieve the Christ-centered, quality, and growth targets established by the bank.
  • Ensure strong implementation and change management of technological innovations.
  • Ensure that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained.
  • Ensure the availability of server services and assist in the repair of malfunctioning servers.
  • Implement relevant system updates as per schedule to ensure the system capability is managed at all times.
  • Install and maintain data center equipment (servers and other technology tools) and systems as per the available guidelines and plans to ensure the data centers provide quality services.

  • Manage Active Directory Domain Services, DNS, Group Policies, File Server Services (DFS), and DHCP.
  • Monitor storage infrastructure and any storage-related processes.
  • Monitor system processes, performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair.
  • Monitor the data center resources to ensure their security and functionality are achieved.
  • Participate actively in disaster recovery plans and tests.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Perform basic system security functions, including securing and monitoring access to the server to ensure system users are properly identified, authenticated, and authorized.

  • Resilience Testing: Ensure systems are tested to guarantee disaster recovery.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems.
  • Take part in the design, architecture, implementation, and maintenance of technology projects.
  • Test backup and restoration processes on a daily or weekly basis to guarantee business continuity.
  • Troubleshoot any reported and unanswered technical queries to ensure timely solutions are identified.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on servers and other related devices.
  • Work with the IT team to design and deploy secure server processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or any other relevant degree from a recognized University or a recognized professional qualification in lieu.
  • Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission of Urwego Bank.
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategies and plans.
  • Ability to multitask and work on demanding projects.
  • Being able to troubleshoot computer network issues.
  • Certified in Microsoft, Red Hat, or VMware.
  • Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent cross-cultural listening, and communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools
  • Experience with Windows (Windows Server 2016, 2019) and Linux (Red Hat, Centos, Ubuntu) installation and administration.
  • Familiar with Veeam Backup & Replication and NetApp Storage.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization technology and data center networking.
